Memo to: Residents, families, staff and leadership at Hamilton Continuing Care

From: Rob Dal Bianco

Date: July 6, 2016

Subject: Schlegel Villages

We are excited to inform you that Deem Management Services Limited has entered into an agreement to sell the operation and licenses of Hamilton Continuing Care to Schlegel Villages.

The Dal Bianco family has owned Hamilton Continuing Care for 40 years. Deem has made this decision as part of a larger vision involving integrated seniors living campuses in other parts of Ontario. Deem Management would like to extend its sincere and heartfelt thanks to the numerous caring staff and volunteers that have made HCC what it is today.

Schlegel Villages is a three-generation family-owned company with over 60 years of experience in the long term care and retirement home sector in Ontario. We are excited about the fact that the Schlegel family will continue and build upon the values that have been established by the Dal Bianco family over many years. Schlegel Villages is based in Kitchener and locally owns the Village of Wentworth Heights in Hamilton. Learn more about Schlegel Villages by visiting their website at

This agreement is still subject to the approval of the Ministry of Health. The approval process will likely take four to eight months, with the finalization date expected close to the end of this calendar year.

Schlegel Villages is committed to continuing the excellent quality of care and service that the Hamilton Continuing Care team is widely known for. All front-line staff have the assurance of job security and they will continue to be supported by the current leadership team at Hamilton Continuing Care in delivering our mission to the residents and families.

Over the coming months we will arrange dates where you will have an opportunity to meet with the Schlegel leadership to gain a comfort with the family you will be joining.

If you have any questions please contact Enesia Malapela, the Hamilton Continuing Care Administrator.
